Hi, Simon!
First off, thanks for taking the time to read and comment my article.
I totally accept you disagree. This is not a one-and-only way of doing the things. In fact, each of us should do the things differently, based on how each of us think and see life.
I have to tell you I didn’t export my Notion databases at all. I moved from Notion to Obsidian and kept my Notion account, having it as an archive. In my case, in the last 2 years I think I’ve accessed to that system a couple of times. That’s my reality.
Anyway, if I need something, I can export any page and subpages to Markdown.
I’ve been running all the worlds, as you can see in these posts:
- 5 Reasons Why Plain Text File-Based Apps Are Succeeding in the PKM World
- Why Am I Moving Part of My Action System from Notion to Obsidian?
- 20 Must-Have Features that Any Replacement to My Obsidian System Should Meet
As I say in the last article, I would just move my system away from Obsidian if something really life-changing happened. It was the case thanks to Mem.
My 2 main points were:
- Better GUI/UX. Something that is very important for me.
- AI. That’s the most important thing and “the one” why I made the move because I do think that’s the future of note-taking app.
But, as I said at the beginning, one needs to enjoy the systems that consider the best for him. I guess you suffered a lot with the “OneNote” issue. I totally understand it. I suffered a little bit moving things from Evernote to Craft, but I consider it as “part of the game”.
Last but not least, thanks so much for sharing Derek’s article. I loved reading it.
Let’s keep sharing thoughts. It’s how we all grow.
Take care!
Cheers!
