Hi, Rodney!

First off, thanks for reading and commenting.

Secondly, I’m so sorry to see you’re a little bit disappointed about the takeaway of the article because I always try to accomplish my promise.

I’ll try to synthesize my thoughts.

I don’t believe in PKMs based on plaint text files because:

  • I feel I’m going back to the past. I think nowadays, as a user, I don’t need to think or worry about local files stored in folders. In fact, I shouldn’t be worried about where my information is stored while I’m trusting on a serious company.
  • They’re usually very limited referring to the UX and GUI. That makes me feel bad on a daily basis, one of the main reasons I’ve searched for alternatives in the market.
  • They’re usually very limited too referring to features because they trust in third-party elements (plugins) the user has to look for, install and “pray” to avoid collisions between them.
  • They’re usually so flexible that I have to find out a workflow to implement. I think it’s the tool that should build a workflow and I, as a user, decide if it fits my needs or not because I don’t want to waste my time setting up a whole system (it took me 6 months to have a setup I felt comfortable with using Obsidian).

Anyway, as you may guess, all those points are just my opinion, based on how I think and how my life is (an entrepreneur managing 4 companies at the same time with a +50-people team).

I admire devs who have developed all those plain-text PKMs because their work is great. I do also admire all the awesome devs who develop incredible plugins.

The point is I’ve found much better (and easier) ways to manage my stuff, projects, tasks, data, and life.

I hope I’ve been able to clarify the points you were missing. If not, please, do not hesitate to contact me by replying to this entry or dropping me an email to paco.cantero@worrybehappy.com.

The PKM is a world I’ve dedicated all my life, and I love to discuss about this topic with people. That’s the way we all grow!

Take care!

Cheers!
